ABOUT OUR COVER The rich beauty of the wide open landscapes around Liberty Hill are a feast for the eyes. Regardless of the season, there is something special to see here along the Shin Oak Ridge. While the Hill Country is known for a variety of wildflowers, in the early summer, the Mexican hats blooming in this Liberty Hill field along the South San Gabriel River caught the eye of photographer Claire Wilkison, a senior at Tarleton State University. Wilkison, who enjoys nature photography, is a 2011 graduate of Liberty Hill High School. The Mexican hats are named for their resemblance to the broad-brimmed, high-centered hat worn during traditional Mexican fiestas.
LIBERTY HILL LIVING PHOTO CONTEST The Liberty Hill Independent hosted a photo contest in spring 2015 seeking area landscape photos to help us tell the story of our community. We selected several photos to feature in the magazine and recognized our winners with prizes. Among those are Kristy Barto (page 4) and Debra Roberts (page 4).
